At 18 years old, I was dropped off at a Heliport in Cornwall with two bags and tonnes of inexperience! I had been offered an 8-month summer contract to work as a Junior Receptionist at the award-winning Island Hotel on Tresco.
It is the second largest island in the Isles of Scilly and measures 2 miles by 1 and has no cars! After three years of promotions, I essentially had to go to university to get a certificate to say that I could do all the things I did in my role in Human Resources already!
And that's how I found myself living in central London and completing my Business and Law degree whilst nannying full time. It taught me a huge amount about time management and running a home. I also learnt a lot about business practices, contract, and corporate law alongside many other really important subjects.
An illness as a child led to an ongoing physical condition which causes extreme fatigue. After I left university, I found myself working in recruitment for the largest catering company in the world. Working at prestigious venues such as Goodwood, Sandown, and Epsom Horse Racecourses and then at our National Rugby ground in Twickenham.
Unfortunately, the extreme commitment required eventually lead to me burning out. I wasn't managing my physical health and, of course, this impacted my mental health too.
After a devastating family tragedy, family became a priority. I gave up my job, my home and essentially my life to return to Somerset. I needed to be around family. I needed to be an auntie. I needed to also think about me.
My role for the next two years was to look after me! I had therapy each week, I adjusted medication, I slept. I allowed myself to heal from burn out and slowly I started to create a new life for myself. All whilst being a great auntie. I slowly fell back in to looking after children whilst learning to create work/life balance.
They wanted to buy the products, but no one sold it locally. They didn't want to pay postage, they did want to see a real person and they wanted it now.
And that was the day the whole RaeRae Green brand started!
